The Caffeine-Free Chai for Evenings
Why a rooibos and mint cup belongs after sunset, and a gentle five-step evening ritual to go with it.

There is a moment, somewhere between dinner and sleep, when the day finally lets go. The lights get softer. The phone gets quieter. Many of us want a warm cup to mark that moment, and many of us would also like to leave caffeine behind by then.
That is the small gap Pavansudha was made for: a Rooibos Mint Chai that tastes like a ritual and is naturally caffeine-free.
What “naturally caffeine-free” means
Black, green and white tea all come from the leaves of the tea plant, and they naturally contain caffeine. Rooibos does not. It is a South African herbal infusion made from the needle-like leaves of a shrub that grows in the Cederberg mountains. Reviews describe it as naturally free of caffeine and low in tannins, with a gently sweet, earthy character.
Pavansudha blends rooibos with spearmint, ginger bits, lemon peel, black pepper and mint. There is no tea leaf in it, so there is no caffeine from tea. That makes it an easy cup to reach for at any hour.
- Rooibosरूइबॉस · South African herb

Rooibos is a South African herbal infusion, not part of classical Ayurveda.
- Spearmintपुदीना · Spearmint

Spearmint is a sweet, gentle mint.
- Ginger bitsसोंठ के टुकड़े · Ardraka

Small pieces of ginger give the cup a lively, warming zing.
- Lemon peelनींबू का छिलका · Nimbu

Lemon peel carries a bright citrus aroma, thanks to oils rich in limonene.
- Black pepperकाली मिर्च · Maricha

Maricha is one of the three pungent spices of Trikatu, the classical Ayurvedic trio of black pepper, long pepper and ginger.
- Mintपुदीना · Pudina

Pudina, mint, is the cooling, fragrant herb of Indian chutneys and chaats.
Each ingredient has its own place in traditional kitchens and herbal references. You can read the cited notes on the Pavansudha page. Here, they simply make a cup that is fresh, bright and warm.
A five-step evening ritual
You do not need an hour or a special room. Five small steps, and about ten minutes, are enough.

Three evening moods
- The quiet read. A book, a lamp and a cup. Make it a little stronger and add a slice of lemon.
- After dinner. Brew a pot at the end of the meal and let the family sit a little longer at the table.
- The wind-down. After yoga, a stretch or a walk, a warm cup gives the evening a clear ending.
Prefer it creamy? Steep 1 teaspoon in ⅔ cup of just-boiled water for 4 to 5 minutes, strain, and stir in ⅓ cup of warm milk. Rooibos is naturally smooth, so it blends gently with milk.
A small invitation
If your evenings are always rushed, try this ritual for one week, just three evenings, and see how it feels. Rituals work not because of what is in the cup, but because they tell us, kindly, that the day is over.
